Wills
You can make a gift to icap by including us in your will.
Naturally, when making your will, your initial concern is likely to be for your family and friends. If you can also
remember icap, then we will be incredibly grateful. Your gift, whatever the size, can make a massive difference
to us, enabling icap to help vulnerable people suffering from mental distress and trauma caused by factors such
as childhood abuse, conflict or forced economic migration. You can help us to keep our doors open to them - the doorway
to a happier life.
Types of gift
By leaving money in your will to icap, or naming us as one of the beneficiaries of a trust you set up, you can
help to guarantee our services may continue to be offered to people we would otherwise have to turn away. There are four
ways in which you can leave a gift to icap:
1. Leave the residue of your estate to icap
You can leave icap the residue of your estate, which is what is left over when all specific gifts and other
liabilities have been paid. If you would like to leave the residue of your estate to icap, we suggest that you
include the following wording in your will:
"I give all of the residue of my estate to icap (Immigrant Counselling & Psychotherapy) (icap registered
charity number 1079353), icap, 96 Moray Road, Finsbury Park, London N4 3LA, for its general charitable purposes
and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a valid and appropriate form of
discharge."
2. Leave a percentage of your estate to icap
You can leave icap a portion of the residue of your estate. If you would like to leave a percentage of your
residuary estate to icap, we suggest that you include the following wording in your will:
"I give a .....% share of the residue of my estate to icap (Immigrant Counselling & Psychotherapy) icap,
96 Moray Road, Finsbury Park, London, N4 3LA, Registered Charity no. 1079353 for its general charitable purposes and I
direct that the receipt of the treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a valid and appropriate form of discharge."
3. Leave a sum of money to icap
If you wish to leave us a sum of money in your will, we suggest that you include the following wording:
"I give to icap (Immigrant Counselling & Psychotherapy), 96 Moray Road, Finsbury Park, London, N4 3LA,
(registered charity number 1079353) the sum of £... [amount in figures and words], to be used for its general charitable
purposes and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or duly authorised officer shall be a valid and appropriate
form of discharge."
4.Name icap as a beneficiary of your trust
If you are thinking of setting up a discretionary trust in your will for the benefit of a family member while they are
alive, you may decide that any sum of money left in the trust after their death will go to icap. When including
icap as a beneficiary in a trust that you set up, please remember to use our full name and address:
icap (Immigrant Counselling & Psychotherapy), 96 Moray Road, Finsbury Park, London, N4 3LA. Registered charity
number: 1079353
Remember: All gifts to icap are free of inheritance tax!
If your total estate (e.g. your house and its contents, car, investments and savings) is worth more than the inheritance
tax threshold (which varies every year), you may choose to give whatever is left to charity in order to minimise the
inheritance tax which must be paid upon your death.
If you have already made your will but want to leave a gift to icap, all you have to do is make a codicil to your
will. This is an additional document to your will which makes minor amendments to your will - such as including a gift
to icap. You should never make any amendments to the original will document - either create a codicil or
make a new will.
