When Irish Eyes Aren't Smiling

If you or somebody you know is feeling lonely, isolated, depressed, or just in need of a chat and some friendly advice, there is help available.

The Irish Health and Social Network in Islington and the Irish Healthy Living Project at The London Irish Centre aims to help raise awareness of the emotional difficulties experienced by Irish residents, and to help direct Irish residents towards culturally sensitive organisations with experience in providing support and help for those of Irish birth and descent.

Organisations such as icap and The London Irish Centre have a wealth of experience in providing high quality care and advice to members of the Irish community. You can access group and individual counselling sessions, as well as services providing great social opportunities, such as allotment and gardening projects, activities based around theatre, music, writing, Gaelic games and a variety of groups for Irish people.

The Irish Health and Social Network also provides a link between Irish residents in Islington, and Islington Council and NHS Islington, giving members of the community an opportunity to voice their experiences, concerns and ideas about their needs and hopes for the future of mental health care provision in the borough.

For more information, please call Claire Buckley, Irish Community Development Worker, icap on 07733 887 338.

The Samaritans offer a telephone service for those in crisis, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Samaritans are sensitive and experienced volunteers, and you can discuss anything with them in complete confidence.
