Irish Health & Social Network Web Pages
Welcome to the Irish Health and Social Network pages!
This part of the icap website is designed specifically for
members of the Irish community living in Islington.
Whether you want to find out about Irish groups in and around the
borough, get information or advice on healthy living
or discover great ways to socialise through fun activities, these pages
are for you!
We aim to help link together Irish (and other useful organisations) in
London, so that members can easily find out which
services, facilities and events are available to them.
The Irish Health and Social Network (IHSN) aims to increase awareness of
mental health difficulties facing our community and
bring about an end to the stigma attached to such problems. One in four
people will experience mental health difficulties
at some point in their lives, and it's useful to remember that just like
physical health problems, anyone can be affected.
Given support, reassurance and practical help, the good news is that
people can, and do get better.
Statistics have shown that the Irish are the only immigrant group whose
physical and mental health deteriorates after
leaving Ireland and settling in Britain. Therefore, it's important to
ensure that members of our community are aware
of ways in which they can improve their health, as well as knowing who
to contact for advice and guidance if required.
You can find tips on healthy living for mind and body in this section of
the icap website. There is also information
on the signs to look out for if someone you know is feeling unwell or
depressed, and suggestions about the simple things
you can do to help him or her.
We are interested in finding out what you would like to see on these
pages, and would love to hear any stories about
your experiences as an Irish person living in Islington. Please join our
mailing list if you would like to receive
a copy of our IHSN monthly newsletter!
