Introduction

icap is an independent, non-sectarian, non-political psychotherapy service, with a central office in London and a regional office in Birmingham. icap has a network of psychotherapists throughout the U. K. particularly in areas where there is a large Irish population. It is a registered charity and a company limited by guarantee.

icap offers open-ended, one-to-one therapy and also works with particular groups. It is particularly interested in young Irish people of first and second generation, who often present with latent issues that have a cultural context. The service is highly confidential and professional.

  • icap was founded in 1996 with one psychotherapist in response to the lack of culturally sensitive psychotherapy for people of Irish origin.

  • In that year 46 clients availed of ongoing psychotherapy. Now icap sees hundreds of clients in psychotherapy each week.

  • Currently icap has a network of psychotherapists working throughout the UK. Since we began thousands of people have accessed our psychotherapy service.

  • icap fills a glaring gap in provision of psychotherapeutic support in the Mental Health Services for people of Irish origin who require a culturally sensitive service, both in London and throughout the UK.

  • icap has sound working relationships and partnership arrangements with Irish community groups and other voluntary and statutory services.
