Would you like to help out at icap? We are currently looking for several enthusiastic and mature volunteers to cover our reception and telephones, and to provide administrative support in both our London and Birmingham offices. Cover is needed particularly from 5 – 8pm, Monday to Thursday, though there are also opportunities to volunteer during the day.
Responsibilities include:
- Answering the phone and taking messages for our therapists, passing the message to the appropriate person
- Answering the entrance dooe and showing the clients into the waiting room
- Providing support to the administrative team
- Ensuring that the premises are locked at the end of the day
Skills required:
- A good, clear telephone voice
- A patient and helpful manner both on the telephone and face to face
- Clear verbal and written communication skills
- A methodical, orderly approach to work
- Keen attention to detail
- The ability to understand, and a willingness to work within icap’s equal opportunities and confidentiality policies
It would be fantastic if you have other skills that you could offer us, for example in Web Design / Accountancy / Database Design / Graphic Design etc.
All candidates will need to have an understanding of the need for client confidentiality.

Not necessarily – each volunteer is different, and icap is interested in how you can help us (and how we can help you!).
In accordance with government regulation, all people working directly with vulnerable adults or children are required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau check. Therefore, if you volunteer with icap, you will be asked to complete the necessary forms.
We ask that all volunteers are a minimum age of 18.
Any time that you volunteer for more than four hours, icap will reimburse you £5 to cover the cost of your lunch/food. icap will cover your travel expenses to and from icap on the day that you work.
All volunteers receive an induction when they start volunteering at icap, as well as training so that they can carry out their role. For further training, we encourage volunteers to look for courses that would be eligible for discounts using our charitable status.
