Our expertise
icap is well recognised as a provider of high quality psychotherapy, with particular expertise of working with the Irish community in Britain, and with adults who were abused in childhood. icap is described in Therapy Today as a ‘successful, recognised and respected part of the professional psychotherapeutic services throughout the UK.’
All our therapists are highly qualified and experienced. They practise under regular clinical supervision, and regularly access our highly regarded professional training days. We have 20 therapists working in our purpose built London centre, 10 in our Birmingham centre, and a network of around a hundred therapists across the rest of Britain. All are BACP / UKCP accredited, with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience, and carry all necessary professional insurance.
icap retains Professor Andrew Samuels as our consultant. Professor Samuels is Professor of Analytical Psychology at the University of Essex, and Visiting Clinical Professor of Psychoanalysis at New York University. Professor Samuels’ involvement helps ensure that we continue to adhere to and progress in the principles of good practice and excellence.
The continuing programme of external assessment of our outcomes and organisational practice is ongoing, conducted by the internationally recognised academic, Professor Peter Fonagy, who is the Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis, Head of the Research Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at University College London, and Chief Executive of the Anna Freud Centre, London. We also use CORE (an industry recognised outcome measure) as part of the assessment and throughout the clinical process.
Our Chief Executive, Gary Fereday, is a Trustee of the Mental Health Providers Forum (the national umbrella body for mental health charities) and represents the third sector on the Department of Health’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme Board.
